The Kreithnerhof
The history of our farm goes back centuries, first appearing in old documents in 1163. In those days, the main building, or Troyenbach manor as it is known, was owned by the powerful Prince-Bishop of Brixen. With its Gothic vaults and typical Tyrolean rooms, the farm served as an impressive administrative centre for the surrounding smaller farms, where tenant farmers laboured and paid their dues.
Around 1700, the estate was taken over by landed gentry and merchants from Bolzano: Mayrhofer, Peintner, Jenner, von Mayrl, Thaler, von Aufschnaiter, all bare testament to frequent name changes, since it was usually the daughters who inherited the estate. Yet the name "zu Troyenbach" has remained and has been associated with the main house of the Kreithnerhof for centuries.
The gentlemen from Bolzano liked to spend their summers on their estate in the Pustertal; in fact, you could say that they were the first holidaymakers on the farm.
The current owners are descendants of the former Bolzano "summer visitors". They have now settled in the Pustertal, renovating and redesigning the Kreithnerhof farm over the past decades.
Fifteen years ago, the old barn, which had become too small and dilapidated and had stood derelict for many years, was demolished to make way for a new building. This now houses tractors and machinery further away from the house.
